Late Monday night, an earthquake jolted parts of Karachi, with a magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale, as reported by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad. This minor but shallow earthquake occurred near Quaidabad, Karachi, at a depth of 15 kilometers, well within the 70-kilometer range from the surface.
The tremor was felt in different areas of Karachi, including Shah Latif, Landhi, Muzaffarabad Colony, and Muslimabad Colony. It prompted people to come out of their homes in panic. Fortunately, there have been no reports of damage or injuries resulting from the earthquake in these affected areas.
In a separate incident, late Sunday night, Swat and its adjoining areas in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province experienced a 4.1 magnitude earthquake. The earthquake’s epicenter was situated in the Hindu Kush Mountains range area at a depth of 110 kilometers. Luckily, there have been no casualties or property damage reported from any part of Swat following this seismic event, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad.
