School van catches fire in Karachi, burns multiple children

Karachi: A school van having fourteen children caught fire near Qatar Hospital in Orangi Town area on Saturday.

According to the initial reports, van caught fire due to the short circuit. There is no evidence of a gas cylinder explosion and the LPG cylinder is in a working condition.

Among fourteen children, six children were sent to the burns ward of Civil Hospital for immediate treatment. Two were burned severely but are out of danger, in-charge of the burns center reported. The remaining four were sent home after providing the required treatment.

According to the eyewitnesses, after picking the last child, van got stuck in mud. Some children got out of the van along with a driver to push the van and suddenly it caught fire due to the short circuit.

The residents of the Orangi Town shifted the children to the Qatar Hospital and then they moved to Civil Hospital’s burns ward for proper and immediate treatment.
