Pakistan shows some fight, South Africa close to crushing victory

Newlands: Pakistan showed some fight in their second innings and saved the innings defeat on the third day of the second test match.

South Africa took the lead of 245 and scored 431 runs in their first innings.

In the morning session of the third day, Pakistani bowlers again bowled at good line and lengths and restricted South Africa to 431. Quinton De Kock made 59 and rest of the tail also showed some sort of resistance.

By taking a massive lead on their shoulders, Pakistani openers again let their fans down. Both Imam and Azhar Ali got out on 6 on the bowling of Steyn and Rabada respectively. But Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq contributed according to their character and took the score to 159, but unfortunately, Masood got out on 61.

Asad Shafiq made 88 on just 118 balls. Along with Shan and Asad, Babar Azam also showed how capable he is and scored 72 with a strike rate of 82.75.

But after the wicket of Asad Shafiq, no Pakistani batsmen showed resistance and Pakistan only managed to take their score near to 300. But overall, Pakistan showed some improvement. Their batsmen look good, especially Babar, Shan, and Asad Shafiq.

Now, South Africa needs only 41 runs to win the series. They went 1-0 up when got a victory in the first test match at Centurion.

It is expected that South Africa will chase down the target without losing a wicket. But, Pakistan should try to get 2 to 3 wickets to show they are not down.

The last test match of the series will be played at Port Elizabeth from 19th of this month. And the fans are eagerly waiting to see a win from Pakistan.
