Today, a petition is accepted by Islamabad High Court from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif regarding the Al Azizia Steel Mills reference case. The former prime minister seeking the earliest possible hearing for scheduling a hearing on his appeal against the Alziza Reference Verdict.
Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani who comprised a two-member divisional bench heard the former premier’s supplementary petition requesting the court to hear his petition against the seven-year jail term given to him in the Al Azizia reference.
Earlier today after a delay in the hearing of the petition due to the absence of Khawaja Haris who is counsel of Nawaz in the case of Al Azizia Steel Mills reference, his request accepted by the court for hearing Nawaz’s plea, instructed the registrar’s office to fix a date within 10 days.
On December 24, an accountability court had found the Nawaz Sharif guilty in the Al Azizia Steel Mills reference and granted him punishment of seven years in prison.
An appeal was filed by Nawaz against the punishment in order to suspend the sentence.
Nawaz Sharif petitioned IHC to schedule a hearing of his appeal at the earliest possible date on Tuesday.
