PESHAWAR: The first lot of the Rapid Transit buses has arrived in Peshawar. TransPeshawar, the governmental Urban Mobility Company has imported them from China via seaport, and then it brought them via road to Peshawar. The buses will be functional from 23rd March 2019.
According to Noman Manzoor, the spokesman of TransPeshawar, every bus is 12-meter long. It has a capacity for 75 passengers. TransPeshawar has bought 220 buses for Rapid Transit Project Peshawar. One hundred fifty-five buses are 12-meter long whereas; remaining buses are 18-meter long. These hybrid buses will run on fuel and electricity alternatively. The spokesperson further stated that these vehicles are environment-friendly. So, they will help in decreasing the carbon emission level in the city. The Buses have Wi-Fi service and Automatic Vehicle Location technologies. The route of the RTB is Chamkini to Hayatabad. The bus will access all of the hospitals and main markets of Peshawar.
It is the first bus service in the country that will accommodate the disabled people too. It has a low floor and ramp for a convenient board of the wheelchairs.
