Almost every civilization of the world has used gold. It symbolized the power, beauty and wealth. Even today, the gold symbolizes beauty and wealth. Currently, the industrial use of gold has increased. It is used not only in jewelry but also in manufacturing medals, wedding ornaments, Oscar awards, coins, crucifixes, and many more things. It is also used in ecclesiastical art. According to a survey, about 78% of the gold mined or recycled is used in manufacturing the jewelry. In the same way, it is used in electrification. It is used with some other metals to make the alloys of gold like it is used with copper, silver, and platinum.
The pure gold is known as 24K (24 Karat). So, when you measure the value of gold jewelry, you will use the 24K as a base value. Like, you weigh the value of 18 karat gold, you will estimate the exact proportion of gold alloyed with other metal as 18/24 = 0.75% So, it shows that in 18 Karat gold, you will have 75% pure gold and 25% another alloyed metal. The 12 karat gold jewelry will have 24/12 = 50% of gold. So, the 18 karat gold will be a bit soft and will not be easily tarnished. However, the 12 karat gold will be less resistant to tarnish and will be a bit hard. Let’s come to the gold rates today in Pakistan.
