ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has inaugurated the Mohmand Dam Hydro Power Project on Thursday. He laid the foundation of the dam in the groundbreaking ceremony today. The construction for the dam will start soon and will be completed until 2024. Mohmand Dam will be used to produce 800-megawatt power.
According to the sources, the dam will be constructed on the River Swat in Mohmand district. It will cover the water shortage problem in the district and the adjacent districts; Peshawar, Nowshera, and Charsadda will also remain safe from flooding.
About more than 17,000-acre lands in Mohmand district are barren due to the shortage of water. This dam will cover the water supply problem for the agricultural lands in the district too. The dam will be made of concrete and will remain functional for 50 to 100 years.
The cost over the construction of Mohmand Dam will be over Rs 309 billion. The Government of Pakistan will spend 238 billion on it while the remaining 71 billion will be funded from the foreign aid.
The former Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was also present in the groundbreaking ceremony of Mohmand Dam.
