Nawaz Sharif to Return to Pakistan, Address Minar-i-Pakistan Rally on Oct 21: Marriyum Aurangzeb

Former information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced that PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan and address a rally at Minar-i-Pakistan, Lahore on October 21, following his four-year stay in England.

Nawaz Sharif had left for London in 2019 for medical reasons while serving a seven-year jail term. During these four years, he was declared a proclaimed offender in the Al Azizia and Avenfield graft cases due to his continuous absence from legal proceedings.

On September 12, Shehbaz Sharif confirmed Nawaz’s return date, and on September 30, the PML-N party stated that Nawaz was prepared to face any circumstances upon his return.

PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, on October 3, mentioned that Nawaz would come back to Pakistan with protective bail and would “surrender to the court after his (welcome) reception” in Lahore.

Marriyum Aurangzeb provided further information about Nawaz’s plans upon his arrival in Lahore, stating that “he will land at the Lahore airport and from there he will address a public meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan, after which he will return to his Jati Umra residence.”

She clarified that Nawaz would not face arrest at the airport.

Marriyum expressed that Nawaz would outline the country’s economic agenda and vision during his Minar-i-Pakistan speech. She asserted, “Nawaz Sharif is the only way to stabilize and develop the country, and only he can help lift the country’s economy on its own feet.”

Regarding the 16-month tenure of former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, Marriyum claimed that he made no wrong decisions during his time in power and credited him with saving the country from default. She added, “He is the only leader who saved the country from default. If he had not undertaken any economic planning, the country would have faced a situation similar to Sri Lanka.”
