Jake Fraser-McGurk Sets New World Record for Fastest One-Day Century

In an astonishing feat, Jake Fraser-McGurk achieved a world record for the fastest white-ball century with a remarkable 29-ball performance in the Marsh One-Day Cup. His incredible century provided the impetus for South Australia’s run chase, coming after Tasmania’s record-setting total of 9-435. Fraser-McGurk’s century surpassed the previous record held by AB de Villiers, who achieved a century in 31 balls for the fastest one-day century.

Fraser-McGurk’s 18-ball fifty not only marked the quickest fifty by an Australian in 50-over cricket but also stands as the fastest limited-overs century in a professional match. He impressively progressed from 50 to 100 runs in just 11 deliveries.

In the 12th over, Fraser-McGurk’s explosive innings came to an end when he was caught off the off-spin of Beau Webster at midwicket, having scored 125 runs from 38 deliveries. His performance, which included 13 sixes and 10 fours, laid a solid foundation for the Redbacks with the score at 1-172.

Originally from Melbourne, the right-hander achieved his first century in any professional format during his fourth game for South Australia, having relocated from Victoria in pursuit of better opportunities.

What makes this accomplishment even more remarkable is that Fraser-McGurk outperformed the previous record for the quickest domestic Australian one-day century, held by Luke Ronchi, by an impressive 22 deliveries.

Fraser-McGurk’s innings began with a single and featured four sixes and two fours in Sam Rainbird’s second over, where he plundered 32 runs. He exhibited no mercy to the Tigers’ bowlers, hitting five consecutive sixes at one point and reaching triple digits in the ninth over of the innings.

When Fraser-McGurk was finally dismissed, his opening partner Henry Hunt remained unbeaten at 39 runs, having witnessed the incredible performance up close.
