Stuck with a dead battery or a flat tire in the middle of Lahore’s traffic? The city’s traffic police may now come to your rescue. A new Mobile Workshop initiative has been launched to provide quick roadside repairs, starting with Lahore’s busy Mall Road.
Officials say the service will soon expand to other key areas of the city and will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
A Two-Man Team on Wheels
Each mobile workshop is staffed by a traffic police officer and a mechanic, equipped to handle minor but common vehicle issues on the spot.
Motorists facing a breakdown can simply dial 15, and a workshop unit will be dispatched to their location.
What They Can Fix
The program isn’t designed for full mechanical overhauls but rather to get stranded drivers moving again. Quick fixes include:
- Tire puncture repairs
- Battery jump-starts
- Spark plug issues
- Restarting stalled vehicles
The goal, police say, is to make cars and bikes “roadworthy enough” to reach a repair shop safely.
Safety Gear Included
Each vehicle is stocked with first-aid supplies and a fire extinguisher, so teams can respond to minor injuries or fire hazards during emergencies.
Why It Matters
Breakdowns on Lahore’s busiest roads often trigger heavy traffic jams, adding stress for both drivers and commuters. This service aims to ease that burden by clearing vehicles quickly, ensuring smoother traffic flow and providing immediate relief to stranded motorists.
The initiative reflects a growing trend of law enforcement agencies offering more public-facing support services rather than simply enforcing rules.
