Honor Unveils Magic V Flip 2 A Clamshell With Record-Breaking Battery and 200MP Camera

Honor has launched its latest foldable, the Magic V Flip 2, in China—an upgrade that sets new benchmarks in the flip-phone category. With a 5,500 mAh battery, it carries the largest power pack seen on any clamshell foldable so far, while also introducing a 200MP main camera. The move places Honor in direct competition with Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Motorola’s Razr 60 Ultra.

Bigger, Brighter Displays

The phone sticks to the familiar clamshell format but upgrades the visuals significantly. The 6.82-inch LTPO OLED inner screen pushes a resolution of 2868 × 1232, runs at 120Hz, and peaks at 5,000 nits brightness—an unusually high number that should make outdoor visibility far better than most competitors.

The cover display is no slouch either: a 4-inch OLED panel with its own 120Hz refresh rate and 3,600 nits peak brightness, making it large enough and bright enough for real usability rather than just quick glances.

In terms of form factor, the Magic V Flip 2 measures 6.9mm when unfolded, around 15.5mm folded, and weighs 204 grams. Durability ratings of IP58/IP59 and certification for hinge reliability suggest Honor is aiming to eliminate lingering concerns about foldable longevity.

Color options include White, Gray, Purple, and a striking Jimmy Choo-designed limited edition in Blue, signaling Honor’s continued push into fashion branding.

Hardware and Performance

At its core, the Magic V Flip 2 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, paired with up to 16GB RAM and storage choices of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB (all using fast UFS 4.0).

The phone launches with Android 15 under Honor’s MagicOS 9.0.1, offering AI-driven multitasking tricks. Connectivity support is future-proof, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, UWB, and dual-SIM capability (physical + eSIM). Audio gets attention too, with stereo speakers and a triple-mic setup for clearer calls.

Camera System: 200MP Takes the Lead

The headline feature is the 200MP primary rear camera—a massive sensor (1/1.4-inch) with OIS and f/1.9 aperture. It’s joined by a 50MP ultrawide lens offering a 127-degree field of view. Up front, Honor equips another 50MP selfie camera, but users can also take advantage of the outer display to use the main cameras for sharper self-portraits.

This setup puts the Magic V Flip 2 well ahead of Samsung’s current Z Flip line in raw camera hardware, though real-world image processing will ultimately determine the gap.

Battery: The New Standard for Flip Phones

Perhaps the most disruptive element here is the 5,500 mAh silicon-carbon battery. Flip phones typically compromise on endurance due to size, but Honor has managed to squeeze in a capacity comparable to regular flagships. Charging speeds are equally competitive: 80W wired (50% in under 20 minutes), 50W wireless, and reverse wireless charging support.

This leap could make the Magic V Flip 2 the first clamshell that doesn’t force users into midday top-ups—something competitors have struggled with.

Availability

For now, the Magic V Flip 2 is limited to China. Honor hasn’t revealed international pricing or launch plans, though global expansion seems likely given the competitive positioning against Samsung and Motorola.
