ISLAMABAD – The federal government has kept petrol prices steady for the next two weeks while slightly raising the cost of diesel, according to the latest fuel price adjustment.
A notification from the Ministry of Finance confirmed that petrol will continue to sell at Rs. 264.61 per litre, a move expected to offer some stability for private motorists already under pressure from high living costs.
In contrast, high-speed diesel—the fuel that powers most freight trucks and agricultural machinery—has become costlier. Its rate has gone up by Rs. 2.78, setting the new price at Rs. 272.77 per litre.
Officials attributed the change to shifting global oil prices and the rupee’s performance against the dollar. Since diesel directly impacts transportation and farming, the hike could filter into market prices for essential goods, even as stable petrol costs cushion urban commuters.
The revised rates took effect at midnight and will remain in place until the government’s next scheduled review in 15 days.
