Imran Khan, former prime minister and PTI chief, along with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, his second in line, faced another delay in their indictment in the cipher case. Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain presided over the hearing at Adiala Jail under the Official Secrets Act 2023, with both Khan and Qureshi present.
Federal Investigator’s Special Prosecutor Shah Khawar was also present in the court during the hearing. Copies of the charge sheet were handed to both Khan and Qureshi, and the special court announced that the indictment would occur in the next hearing.
Salman Safdar Butt and Khalid Yousaf will represent Imran Khan, who has been in custody for over two months. The special court had previously scheduled the indictment for October 17.
This development followed the Islamabad High Court Chief Justice’s recent decision to dismiss the PTI chief’s plea, asserting that there was no ‘ill will’ associated with conducting the trial in the jail.
Imran Khan and his party leaders are confronting a cipher case registered under the Official Secrets Act. In this case, the former cricket star is accused of divulging classified cipher contents. In his impassioned speeches, the PTI chief alleged a US conspiracy to oust him from power.
