Prankster Invades India vs. Australia World Cup Match, Raises Security Concerns

by Kamran Siddiqui

A pitch invader breached heavy security and fencing during the Cricket World Cup match between India and Australia, getting within touching distance of players, including Virat Kohli.

British YouTube prankster Daniel Jarvis surprised the crowd of approximately 30,000 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium by donning a blue India team shirt with “Jarvo 69” written on the back.

Kohli appeared to have a conversation with Jarvis before security escorted him away. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has mentioned that they will consider additional security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.

Jarvis has a history of pitch invasions, having trespassed onto the field three times during England’s home Test series against India in 2021. He faced charges of aggravated trespass after colliding with England player Jonny Bairstow at the Oval.

Questions have arisen regarding how Jarvis managed to obtain a visa when many Pakistani journalists and fans faced visa delays and were unable to attend the World Cup in India.
